Jared: Hey, I’m Jared. I am the Head of Software Architecture here at Smartex & I joined one year & a half ago.

Tiago: I’m Tiago Pinto, I’m the Head of Embedded Engineering, & I joined three years ago. It’s ten times bigger now! I was the 14th person to enter Smartex & we are 140 I guess, or something around that. I felt that the project was amazing & I really believed that Smartex can bring a lot to the world. Yeah, it’s beautiful to see this growing up.

Jared: Yeah, I’ve learned the importance of finding what inspires me & really using that as fuel & in this case, it’s working with great people towards sustainability. That fires me up to come to work every day & solve cool problems.

Tiago: Probably the thing that I learned more was that when you want to do a reliable system to work 24 hours seven days a week, you really need to check every detail on reliability - to test a lot - because everything that can go wrong, will go wrong for sure. And we need to be prepared for that.

Jared: It’s been interesting to watch the Software Team go from ten people to fifty people & how that totally changes how we have to build things & how communication works & how to structure our processes.

Tiago: And I think the best part of entering Smartex now is that we are still in the mentality of a startup but we are trying now to define the best processes to deal with more people in Software & I think it’s the best time to have a foot on both of those porches.

Jared: It keeps things exciting.

Everyone has the same amount of hours in the day, you can put your time & energy into a lot of different things. Putting that into something that is fun & exciting & contributes to solving big, epic, important problems… thumbs up… nice. I did a thumbs up by the way. double thumps up!
